I made this cake yesterday for my mom's birthday, which is today. It is a golden yellow cake, with chocolate frosting and since I followed each recipe to the exact specifications, I'm going to link to each source:
Yellow Butter Cake and Mrs. Miliman's Chocolate Frosting
If she enjoys this cake as much as she enjoys me, it will be asked "What exactly are your future plans, honey?" four bites into the evening.
I owe her so much, I'm still uncovering debts I didn't know I had. She has taught me so many things, and has let me teach myself some of the most important. She has let me fall and she has caught me before I knew I had begun a tumble that would have taken me down and down and down. My mother is someone I fear becoming, and someone I wish I came close to emulating. I love her with all of my heart, and she has shown me so much love and kind firmness over the years, the least I can do is bake her a cake.
I only swore once while making it, while turning it out to cool and realizing the bottom had stayed behind to turn off the lights, so it is 99% love and sweetness.
And a little dirt.
the cuttiest cake i've ever seen... as beautiful as Sadaharu Oaki cakes in paris

Thank you so much, ladies. Patricia, the green flowers are button mums, which I used to hate but now I'm kind of full of fondness for them.

I love, love, love your post. And the cake looks superb - what are those decorations next to the daisies? (boy, am I curious or what?)
