Food Goals, '08

- Make Tartine's Croissants, without a stand mixer (Food Processor and dough blade, let's see what happens)
- Make 'real' buttercream, with a hand mixer
- Go Vegan/Sugar and artificial sweetener/Wheat-Free, each for a month
- Start a container garden
- Grow a pear in a bottle (This involves a ladder)
- Gut a fish
- Dry-age meat in the fridge
- Eat a deviled egg (Never tried one)
- Make my own vanilla extract

They aren't big ideas, or life-changing, but they are things I've wanted to do for a long time and I figure there's no reason not to get started, so I can clear the way for my next list of things I will deny fruition. Like learning French.

Huh. But do you have a pear tree for that pear in a bottle?

Deviled eggs are a good thing.

I plan on making Tartine's croissants soon, too. Well, at least once I get a non-tiled counter. I have fantasies of making it some kind of tradition for an annual event (birthday? Christmas? Pap smear?)

Also, how does one grow a pear in a bottle? You mean the entire tree?

Amanda, will do! I hope they turn out decent, and don't make me weep over wasting butter. And if you go artificial-sweetener free, please report back. I'm really intensely into seeing how it goes (I mainly ingest it in the form of Diet Coke/gum).

Wende, I know, it is insane, I don't know how it got this far either. I had/have an aversion to egg salad, but the 'idea' of a deviled egg has always been immensely appealing to me, so I need to confront this dream head on.

Never had a deviled egg. Ever? SERIOUSLY.

nice goals. Let me know how the crossaints w/o a mixer goes. I don't have a fancy pantsy mixer either so I'd make them the laborous way, with my two hands. And going vegan sounds like an adventure. I'm wanting to do the artificial sweetener free month. Your post has inspired me.
